Blean is an elevated village beside the ancient Blean Woods, and that setting shapes the flat roofing work we are called out for. The housing here is largely period cottages and later village housing, so ageing felt on extension and outbuilding flat roofs is what we handle most.
We recover the flat roof in GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber with proper falls to the outlet, repairing the deck if needed, working with GRP or EPDM, far longer-lasting than the felt it replaces. Every Blean job starts with a free survey and a written fixed-price quote, with no call-out fee.
Most Blean flat roofs are low and reached from a tower; scaffold only where the flat roof is at height or wraps a two-storey return. Scaffold is specified for: first-floor or wrap-around flat roofs, or where edge protection is needed - always itemised in your written quote, never a hidden extra, and we arrange it.
Blean’s cottages, terraces and village lanes have limited parking, so scaffold lorry access and skip placement are arranged ahead of the work. Pavement scaffold and skip permits go through Canterbury City Council; allow a few working days on streets like Blean high street, Blean’s older terraces where space is tight.
Work on Blean roofs starts with the building stock: period cottages around the church, extensive 1960s-70s estate housing, and modern development along Tyler Hill Road, spread across a woodland village. Flat roofs on Blean extensions, garages and dormers are where felt fails first. We fit GRP fibreglass or EPDM rubber with a 25-year guarantee rather than short-life felt.
For Blean, the key roofing reality is that Surrounded by the Blean woodland complex, gutters and valleys clog with leaves every autumn and moss thrives in the shade. The large 1960s-70s estate is now firmly in nail-sickness territory. We know the streets — School Lane, Tyler Hill Road, Blean Common, Hoath Road among them — where it bites hardest, and adjust our flat roofing accordingly. Woodland setting demands frequent clearing; 60s-70s estates need re-fixing.
