Bekesbourne is a small Nailbourne-valley village near Howletts, and that setting shapes the moss removal work we are called out for. The housing here is largely period brick-and-tile cottages and farmhouses, so heavy moss under the tree canopy holding water against the tiles is what we handle most.
We soft-wash the moss off by hand and brush, clear the gutters and valleys, and apply biocide to slow regrowth — never pressure-washing, working with soft-wash and biocide, never pressure-washing which damages tiles. Every Bekesbourne job starts with a free survey and a written fixed-price quote, with no call-out fee.
Most Bekesbourne roofs are reached from a tower or roof ladder; scaffold is quoted where a job needs safe standing time at height. Scaffold is specified for: re-roofs, chimney and valley work, and anything beyond a day at height - always itemised in your written quote, never a hidden extra, and we arrange it.
Bekesbourne’s cottages, terraces and village lanes have limited parking, so scaffold lorry access and skip placement are arranged ahead of the work. Pavement scaffold and skip permits go through Canterbury City Council; allow a few working days on streets like Bekesbourne high street, Bekesbourne’s older terraces where space is tight.
As a small Stour valley village, Bekesbourne has scattered period farmhouses and cottages, a cluster of listed buildings near the church and station, and occasional modern infill. Each era brings its own roofing demands, and our moss removal and roof cleaning approach adapts to whichever you own. Moss is a real problem in Bekesbourne, lifting and cracking tiles and washing into gutters. We scrape, soft-treat with biocide, and clear the drainage rather than power-washing tiles to death.
A high proportion of period and listed property means almost all work is conservation-led: matched Kentish plain clay tile, lime mortar bedding, and lead flashing rather than modern substitutes. Rural tree cover blocks valleys. That factor drives most of the moss removal and roof cleaning calls we take around Bekesbourne Lane, Aerodrome Road, School Lane, Church Lane and the rest of Bekesbourne. Listed and period stock requires reclaimed tile, lime mortar and consent.
