Thanington is a south-western Canterbury district along the Stour, and that setting shapes the moss removal work we are called out for. The housing here is largely period cottages and modern estate housing, so moss on damp, shaded terraced roofs near the Stour is what we handle most.
We soft-wash the moss off by hand and brush, clear the gutters and valleys, and apply biocide to slow regrowth — never pressure-washing, working with soft-wash and biocide, never pressure-washing which damages tiles. Every Thanington job starts with a free survey and a written fixed-price quote, with no call-out fee.
Most Thanington roofs are reached from a tower or roof ladder; scaffold is quoted where a job needs safe standing time at height. Scaffold is specified for: re-roofs, chimney and valley work, and anything beyond a day at height - always itemised in your written quote, never a hidden extra, and we arrange it.
Thanington’s cottages, terraces and village lanes have limited parking, so scaffold lorry access and skip placement are arranged ahead of the work. Pavement scaffold and skip permits go through Canterbury City Council; allow a few working days on streets like Thanington high street, Thanington’s older terraces where space is tight.
Thanington sits as a Stour-side suburb with Victorian terraces along the Ashford Road, large post-war council-built estates, and newer development toward Thanington Without. For moss removal and roof cleaning, that context matters — Moss is a real problem in Thanington, lifting and cracking tiles and washing into gutters. We scrape, soft-treat with biocide, and clear the drainage rather than power-washing tiles to death.
The post-war estate housing dominates the workload and is squarely at the nail-sickness stage, with concrete tiles slipping across whole slopes. Low Stour-side plots face damp and gutter overflow. That factor drives most of the moss removal and roof cleaning calls we take around Ashford Road, Cockering Road, Milton Manor, Tonford Lane and the rest of Thanington. Post-war estate roofs commonly need full re-fixing or re-roofing.
